proj_descOur research group is interested in monitoring animal health in response to various stressors, such as infection or in response to nutritional intervention. We have just recently obtained a flow cytometer that allows for the analysis of single cell populations in real-time via fluorescence imaging. This instrument provides us with the unique ability to access immune status and function at the cellular level, in real-time. We are interested in recruiting highly motivated and dedicated honors student to contribute to our existing group currently working in this area of research. Honors students will have the opportunity to learn the technique of flow cytometry and to utilize these skills in an independent research project.
inter_descThis work is highly interdisciplinary due to the nature of flow cytometry and the basic research questions addressed. Students participating in this work will learn and be trained to blend together basic technique and knowledge in the fields of cell biology, immunology, nutrition, cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry.

desired_resNo research experience is necessary. We are primarily interested in recruiting highly motivated students who want to learn new things and take on new challenges in their education. Students must be good communicators (verbal and written), work well with others, dependable, responsible, able to learn new skills and comfortable working with instrumentation.
