proj_descSoil formation processes and rates are studied with increasing intensity, in order to project soil formation into the past, for environmental reconstruction. The goal is, by understanding past environmental changes, to project ecosystem responses to pressures such as global climate change. The objective of this study is to research how aspect and plant community, as well as other pertinent factors, impact soil formation and development in Black Lake Canyon, Nipomo, California. In addition to the scientific benefit (“paleoecology”) of this study, one important deliverable will be a plan for restoration and management of the Black Lake Canyon area.
inter_descStudents from Landscape Architecture, Soil Science, and Philosophy are working together on this research project whose conclusions may lead to further research and support restoration work by the Land Conservancy of SLO.
