| proj_desc | Southeast Asia is one of the world’s nexuses for human trafficking. To this point, the trafficking has been studied as a sociological phenomenon. I propose to take a new methodological approach to study transnational human trafficking in the late twentieth century from an historical perspective. I propose to work with three students to conduct interdisciplinary primary- and secondary-source on the trafficking of Southeast Asians for labor and sex work. The aim of this project is to produce an article to be published in a peer-reviewed journal. Please note that Ara Kim and Maureen Malone, current applicants to the honors program, have expressed interest in this project. |
| inter_desc | Though this project is historical in methodology, it draws from the theoretical models of gender studies, political science and philosophy as well as other liberal arts and humanities disciplines. |

| desired_res | I would prefer students with humanities research skills. I would be thrilled with (but not limited to) students who can read French, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, or a Southeast Asian language. |
