Colleagues,

We are requesting Research Proposals to initiate new Honors undergraduate research projects for Honors students in the Winter and Spring quarters of 2009.

Please continue reading if you are interested in having highly motivated honors students participating in your research activities.

Last year’s Honors Research Program was a big success. Thanks to the efforts of participating faculty members and honors students, we were able to form 20 research teams. Please refer to the Research Showcase of Winter 2008 for an example of previously funded projects.

We again plan to support approximately 20 projects (maximum $4,000 per project). We are in the process of securing funding for this year’s cycle. The following Deans provided funds for last year’s program:

If you would like to participate in an Honors Research project, please send a brief description of your proposed research activity here by 5:00pm Monday, October 20, 2008. The collected list of research projects provided by faculty members will be used to match the qualifications and interests of the Honors students with the projects. If your project is selected, you will have the final say in accepting honors student(s) for your project. Priority will be given to interdisciplinary projects with at least 2 honors students on the research team. Faculty members are also encouraged to recruit high GPA (at least 3.3 CP cumulative GPA) non-Honors students to join their research teams and also to apply to the Honors Program.

Projects that combine technology with community service to contribute to the public good, improving the welfare of the global community or our own local community will be favorably considered.

I look forward to working with you all.
